Defending champions face a determined opposition who has nothing to lose in Sri Lanka when they clash in the semi final of SAFF Suzuki Cup 2015 on December 31.
The Lions of Khorasan have a fit and ready squad which consists of influential players such as FaysalShayesteh, Zubayr Amiri and current top scorer Khaibar Amani. Coach Peter Segrt rested several key players including Amani in their last group stage game against Maldives. With key players missing, they still managed to win the game 4-1 to show their squad strength.
SampathPerera, Head Coach of Sri Lanka, mentioned in the pre match presser that he has a few injury niggles to deal with but nothing that is particularly serious. Sri Lanka conceded possession and were dominated by Nepal for vast majority of their first group game only for a last minute Rifnas Mohamed goal to beat Nepal. They were convincingly beaten by India in their last game but three points were deemed enough for progression into the knockout round.
Afghanistan are expected to play their natural attacking game and Sri Lanka will look to get men behind the ball, waiting for their chance to attack. Although Afghanistan seems the clear winners on paper, it is a different ball game out on the field and fans will be hoping for an exciting spectacle.
Afghanistan vs Sri Lanka is the second semi final of the day, and is scheduled to kick off at 5:30 PM broadcast live on TOLOTV and LemarTV.
