Exciting news out of the Afghan football scene this week as the Afghanistan Football Federation just wrapped up their annual clubs championship tournament, which featured many Roshan Afghan Premier League stars. The tournament kicked off on December 21, 2014 and lasted a week. With a final taking place on December 28th that saw Kabul Big Bears defeat Kunduz Shaheens 3-0.
The eight teams representing eight different regions of Afghanistan were broken up into two groups. Group A consisted of: Herat Esteqlal, Fariyab Esteqlal, Helmand Haroon Popal, and Ghazni Sharwali. Group B was made up of Kabul Big Bear, Kunduz Shaheen, Nangarhar Pedagogy, and Kapisa Paiman Mohammad Raqi.
After group play was over, four of the eight teams advanced to the semifinals. In the first semifinal matchup Fariyab Esteqlal were defeated by Kunduz Shaheen and Kabul Big Bear took down Helmand Haroon Popal in the second. The championship was now set between Kabul Big Bears and Kunduz Shaheens. Each team was packed with RAPL talent.
Kabul Big Bears featured: Jamil, Hezbullah, Amriddin Sharifi, Mobin, Fardin, Omaid Azimi, and Muqtadar Qazizada; whereas Kunduz Shaheens had Masoud Qarizada, Kismat Ahmadi, Atiqullah Sherzad, and Arif Basiry going for them. Having more Roshan Afghan Premier League players was a clear advantage for Kabul Big Bears as they won the game easily, 3-0.
