Afghanistan will face Bangladesh on Thursday, 24th December, in their first game at the SAFF Suzuki Cup 2015. TOLO TV and Lemar TV are the only official broadcast partners for the 2015 SAFF games and Afghan audiences can enjoy watching the games in HD quality.
The following is a short review of Afghanistan's performance in previous versions of this competition.
The Lions of Khorasan enjoyed a very good SAFF Suzuki Cup campaigns in 2011 and 2013. One of the main reasons for their sudden rise in South Asian football was the group of strong midfielders and strikers that they had in their squad.
The trio of Sanjar Ahmadi, Mustafa Azadzoy and Bilal Arezou set the stadium alight during the campaign as Afghanistan managed to reach the final. Ahmadi was new to international duty but with the rest of the team by his side, he formed a terrific partnership with fellow midfielder Azadzoy and consistently linked up with Arezou, who tore defences apart with ease. The transition from defence to attack was made seamless thanks to the playmaking skills of Ahmadi and Azadzoy. Arezou enjoyed consistent supply of balls from midfield and Afghanistan’s forward play helped them reach a different level in terms of quality football.
This year, the expectations are even higher for the Lions to defend their title and mark another championship victory in the history of SAFF games.
