The 2016 RAPL Regional Tournaments (Maidan-e-Sabz) kicked off from Kabul on April 7th in Kabul’s Ghazi Stadium. Maidan-e-Sabz in Kabul is the first of eight RAPL Regional Tournaments that will take place in the next two months to recruit top players for the preliminary 26-men squads of each of the eight RAPL teams.
This year, 11 top football clubs of Kabul participated in Shaheen Asmayee’s Maidan-e-Sabz in Kabul. The 11 participating teams were each Maiwand, Jawanan Kabul, Jawanan Panjshir, Ferozi, Urdo, Big Bear, Amarkhil, Estiqlal, Sabawoon, Jawanan Urdo, Sara Miasht.
This year, FIFA and AFC licensed RAPL Coach from Tajikistan, Boir Igamberdiev and high ranking AFF officials carried out the selection process in Kabul.
Last year, for the third consecutive year, Shaheen, the two time RAPL defending champions blazed their way to the 2015 RAPL championship round, beating Mawjhai Amu 3-2 in the semifinals. They finished the extra time in the final in a scoreless stalemate with De Spinghar Bazan, and eventually lost 4-3 in penalty shootout.
