The 2016 RAPL Regional Tournament (Maidan-e-Sabz) for selecting the 26-man squad of De Spinghar Bazan took place in the eastern province of Nangarhar from 28th April to 2nd May. The four competing teams in this tournament were each Nangarhar A, Nangarhar B, Nooristan, and Laghman.
Bazan is the RAPL defending champions winning their first ever title last year. Their huge success was mainly credited to their young and high-spirited squad. This year, FIFA and AFC licensed RAPL Coach from Tajikistan Boir Igamberdiev traveled alongside high ranking AFF officials and judged the tryouts for picking the best football talents of the eastern region in the Bazan squad.
Bazan’s excellent goal keeper Zohaib Aseel and their Captain Fahim played important roles leading their campaign for the title last year. Both of them are in the 26-man list this year too. Bazan have a total of 16 new players on their roster for 2016 RAPL Main Event. However, the intra-squad matches are ahead of us to decide the fate of the five players who won’t play for Bazan in this year’s Main Event.
Bazan etched their name on the 2015 RAPL Cup, dethroning the defending champions Shaheen Asmayee, with 4-3 score in a thrilling penalty shootout in the final game of the season last year. It’s too early to judge if they can defend their title in the same spectacular fashion this year.
