The Afghanistan National football team, specifically the under-23 football team, has been suspended as a result of poor play during recent international matches. The announcement was made in a statement released by the Afghan Football Federation and National team head coach, Mohammad Yousuf Kargar.
The decision was made after the team lost all matches against Bangladesh, Hong Kong and Uzbekistan in 2014 Incheon Asian Games. Many of the players from the U-23 team play for the Roshan Afghan Premier League champions Shaheen Asmayee.
Kargar said a new team will be formed after he and other AFF coaches and trainers have reevaluated players training and performances. AFF will sign new players to join the U-23 team in an effort to increase the level of competition for roster spots on the team.
The AFF and RAPL are working together to realize their shared dream of Afghanistan qualifying for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
