Shaheen Asmayee conceded 3-1 its first group stage match of Sheikh Kamal International Club Cup 2017 to Chittagong Abahani Ltd at Chittagong, Bangladesh on February 19, 2017. Chittagong Abahani Ltd was the 2016 champions of Sheikh Kamal Cup.

Each match has three points and Shaheen could not secure the first one. There are two other fixtures ahead of Shaheen Asmayee in this cup.

The rivals, Chittagong Abahani started the match with back-to-back attacks on Shaheen’s bar, yet, majority of the attacks were deterred by Shaheen’s defense line or goalie. But, Shaheen could not keep the same tempo when Abahani’s striker netted the opener on 22 minutes. On 39 minutes, Abahani scored a first-half double to challenge Shaheen’s recovery.

With the hope to overcome the deficit, Shaheen Asmayee kicked-off the second-half with focus on exchanging slick passes and strikes. The effort was rewarded on 58 minutes after Sayed Nasir Hussaini rippled the roof of the opponents’ net and broke the deadlock. However, the new-found energy quickly fizzled out after Abahani scored the third goal on 82 minutes.

Shaheen’s attempts to recover the deficit were dragged off and ultimately the team slumped to a 3-1 defeat.

Shaheen Asmayee will have two more fixtures in the Sheikh Kamal International Club Cup 2017 group stage. The second match of Shaheen will be on February 22, 2017 against Monag Marshyangdi Club of Nepal at 2:30 pm Kabul time.
