The 2016 Roshan Afghan Premier League (RAPL) title holders, Shaheen Asmayee lost the chance to escalate to the Sheikh Kamal International Club Cup 2017 semi-finals after its 2-1 lost against Mohammadan SC Limited of Bangladesh on February 24, 2017.

In the first group stage match, Shaheen Asmayee confusedly flailed around the pitch despite having an obvious talent advantage and superiority; resulted in a 3-1 loss to Chittagong Abahani Ltd of Bangladesh.

Later, the superbly 3-1 triumph of Shaheen over Monang Marshyangdi Club of Nepal in the second group stage match boosted the club’s hopes to keep the tempo high for the semi-finals. Unluckily, their hope was not materialized after Shaheen conceded 2-1 to Mohammadan.

Shaheen Asmayee showed great spirit to push their opponents all the way, but they ran out of steam towards the end and the rivals took full advantage. The closely contested affair match was blown apart on the 32 minutes when Mohammadan SC netted the opener. To double their lead, another goal was netted on 69 minutes.

Shaheen Asmayee’s striker, Amirudin Sharifi could fashion an effort on target on 88 minutes but it was not enough to avoid the loss.

With one win and two defeats, Shaheen Asmayee could not claim a spot in the Sheikh Kamal International Club Cup 2017.
